The RIO's likely performance comes from a new generation of engines with the state-of-the-art design, technology and materials. The result is quiter, more economical and cleaner performance from the RIO's 1.3 litre power plants. The same kind of advance thinking was applied to the structure and chasis. Using computer aided design, Kia engineers greatly increased the RIO's structureal rigidity. This dramatically reduces noise, vibration and harshness for a remarkably smooth and quiet ride. When it comes to handling, the RIO will keep drivers smiling. With MacPherson struts front suspension, refined braking system and responsive rack-and-pinion steering, the RIO takes on the road with confidence.

Kia engineers place top priorty on safety, as is evident from the RIO's improved safety features. Using the very lastest in computer aided engineering and design tools, the Rio's body frame has been made stronger and more rigid. Reinforced A and B pillars are stiffer and stronger for improve crashworthiness. The new RIO is designed with crumple zones that absorb much of the energy of an impact. All pillars have been injected with foam for more cushioned surface area to minimize bodily injury in the event of a crash.
