Improving the stability of your car

More and more vehicle owners are now looking to improving the stability and handling of their cars. For many, this process begins and ends with replacing their existing tyres with bigger rims and tyres. In reality, improving the stability and handling of your car calls for certain modifications.

The first and most common method is to replace the existing tyres with bigger rims and tyres of bigger diameter. This is the most non-intrusive and cheapest method to upgrading the stability of a vehicle. In doing so, make sure that you choose the rims and tyres combination that optimises the performance that you require. If bigger tyres are insufficient, we move on to the second method, which is to install shorter absorbers and springs. The principal of the second method is that the lower the car, the surer the handling. This method usually employs racing springs that are normally shorter and stronger than normal springs. To gain even better handling, combine this with performance shocks that allow for height adjustment and the quality of the shock absorbers.

If changing the tyres and springs are simply not good enough for a discerning motorist, method three would be the installation of anti-roll bars. Anti-roll bars are installed on the front suspension system. The device's works by balancing out the load difference between the tyres when the vehicle is taking a corner. This reduces the risk of rollovers and protects passengers from being flung from one end of the car to another in such situations. There are plenty of anti-roll bars available in the market, with plenty of models and price ranges to choose from. The ultimate in controlling vehicle stability and handling would require the final method - replacing the entire suspension component, including replacing the bushing system.

Bushing is an important component of the suspension system. Over time, wear and tear occurs and reduces the component's efficiency and performance. Replacement parts made from more durable polyurethane (a rubber-like synthetic material) can be obtained from the market.

If all the above methods seem too dramatic for your taste, you can still maintain the stability and handling of your existing system by ensuring that tyre balancing is conducted whenever necessary. However, be aware that even with modifications to the handling of your car, you are still advised to stay within the legal speed limit, especially in adverse weather conditions.
